Emergency Dental Services

Dental emergencies are both painful and terrifying. It is possible for trauma, grinding, eating hard foods, etc. to lead to fractured teeth. At this stage, treatment is always required to alleviate the pain and to ensure your teeth have the best chances of survival.

For many, being in a dental environment is far from ideal. That is why we offer sedation options for those who are extremely nervous or undergoing major dental procedures. We strive to have you feel very safe and relaxed so that you can forget about your worries while we take care of your dental needs. While most nervous patients only require a minor sedation that keeps them conscious, it is not uncommon for some to fall asleep during treatment, simply because they are so relaxed!

Accidents happen, and knowing what to do when one occurs can mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Not sure if it’s an emergency? Find out by talking to one of our Commercial Drive Dentists.

Call us if you experience:

  1. Toothache
  2. Chipped or broken teeth
  3. Lost filling or abscessed tooth
  4. Sensitivity to heat and cold
  5. Emergency issue in teeth or jaw region

Most dental problems escalate quickly. Do not wait until you have a dental emergency. Please call EastVan Dental Office on Commercial Drive to book your next appointment at (604) 251-4000 or just swing on by. We accept walk-in patients.

Here are some tips for common dental emergencies:

types of cracked tooth vancouver

  • For a knocked-out permanent or adult tooth, keep it moist at all times. If you can, try placing the tooth back in the socket without touching the root. If that’s not possible, place it in between your cheek and gums, in milk, or use a tooth preservation product that has the CDA Seal of Acceptance. Then, get to EastVan Dental Office right away.
  • For a cracked tooth, immediately rinse the mouth with warm water to clean the area. Put cold compresses on the face to keep any swelling down.
  • If you bite your tongue or lip, clean the area gently with water and apply a cold compress.
  • For toothaches, rinse the mouth with warm water to clean it out. Gently use dental floss to remove any food caught between the teeth. Do not put aspirin on the aching tooth or gum tissues.
  • For objects stuck in the mouth, try to gently remove with floss but do not try to remove it with sharp or pointed instruments.

When you have a dental emergency, it’s important to visit our dental office or an emergency room as soon as possible.

Here are some simple precautions you can take to avoid accident and injury to the teeth:

  • Wear a mouthguard when participating in sports or recreational activities.
  • Avoid chewing ice, popcorn kernels and hard candy, all of which can crack a tooth.
  • Use scissors, NEVER your teeth, to cut things.

At Eastvan Dental Office, our Dentists on Commercial Drive reserve time in their daily schedules for emergency patients. Call our East Vancouver Dental Office at (604) 251-4000 and provide as much detail as possible about your dental emergency.
